Over the past few weeks, CMVFR has responded to several brush fires in our district. The fires were all started by citizens burning trash and yard debris, but the fires got out of hand and burnt several acres of land and 2 structures.
We are asking that citizens adhere to the following guidelines when burning anything outside:
- NO OUTSIDE BURNING is recommended during days where fire weather conditions exist. The high winds and low humidity are a recipe for small fires to get out of hand and grow to full blown forest fires.
- Never leave a fire unattended for any reason.
- Always have an adequate water source while burning outside.
Burning anything that is man made is illegal in Gaston County. Leaves and brush are the only legal items that can be burned.
- If a fire gets out of hand, call 911 immediately.
